# Understand Analog Clock

Telling time is one of the most important concepts that children are introduced to in Grade 1. Not only does telling time lay the foundation for many other concepts that children learn in higher grades, but it is also a life skill. With the proliferation of digital clocks around us, we often come across children who are completely oblivious to the analog clock. This game aims at familiarizing children with the numbers on the analog clock, the hour hand and the minute hand, and teaching their significance.

What’s inside?

- Identify numbers and their position on the analog clock.

- Recognize the minute and the hour hand on the analog clock.

- Identify the numbers to which the minute and the hour hand point.

Real-World Application

Quite often, children talk about how much more time there is before it is lunch break or the time taken to travel a couple of kilometers. Telling time is a skill that children can pick up easily when they can apply it every day.

What’s next?

Now that children know the basics of the analog clock, they can proceed to learning to tell time to the hour and to the half hour.

#### Cool Fact

In ancient times, the Egyptians built great towers called “obelisks” that cast huge shadows to tell time. Their moving shadows formed a kind of sundial, enabling people to partition the day into morning and afternoon. Obelisks also showed the year's longest and shortest days when the shadow at noon was the shortest or longest of the year.
