# Subtract 3 Digit Number from 3 Digit with Regrouping (Borrow)

- 3rd Grade Math

By the end of the third grade, children should be fluent with subtraction within 1000. Children already had considerable practice of subtraction within 1000 in the second grade. But as fluency is an expectation in the third grade, children must be exposed to a variety of methods, including the standard algorithm for subtraction with and without regrouping. In this fun subtraction game, children subtract two 3-digit numbers with regrouping.

What’s inside?

- Subtract two 3-digit numbers using the standard algorithm.

- Complete a subtraction sentence involving two 3-digit numbers using regrouping.

Real-World Application

Imagine playing your favorite game and accumulating, for example, 875 points. You now want to buy an add-on feature of the game that’ll consume some 298 points. How many points would you be left with? You’ll need to subtract 298 from 875 to know the answer.

What’s next?

Now that third graders are fluent with subtraction within 1000, they can progress to learning subtraction across zeros.
