Multiple - Definition with Examples

What is a Multiple?

Multiple Definition: A multiple of a number is obtained by multiplying a number by a non-zero whole number (positive integer).

For example, a x b = c  ; c is a multiple of a and b.

Multiples on a Number Line 

Multiples of any number can be easily found on a number line

For example, to find the multiples of any number. Start at 0 and count the number of steps in the same size. 

The multiples of 3 (are shown in the image here) are 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18…. so on.

Common Multiples 

A number divisible by two or more numbers without a remainder is known as common multiple of those numbers. For example, 12 is a common multiple of 2, 3, 4 and 6

Multiples and Factors

Meaning of Multiples: Multiples of a number are numbers that are completely divisible by the given number.

Meaning of Factors: Factors of a number are numbers that completely divides the given number. 

Product of Factors

In this number sentence, 12 is a multiple of 3 and 4. Also, 3 and 4 are factors of 12.
